November, 2009 Newsletter NEXT MEETING: November 16, 2009
Programs/Speakers
November 16: Michael Farrell, local artist, painter and teacher who will show his work and demonstrate the variety of media he uses February 8: Julian Maellil, owner of MAT ABOUT YOU, a frame shop in Ellicott City (on Rogers Avenue). We will have a lottery ($1.00 per person) at the November meeting and one member name will be picked to have a something framed by Julian (no larger than 24”x 30”). By December 20th, the winner will need to make an appointment to discuss the framing and at the February meeting Julian will bring the finished piece, take it apart and show how he does the matting and framing. Julian’s number is 410-3131-8860. His website is Mataboutyou.com. All programs begin at 7:30pm at the Howard County Center for the Arts WELCOME- NEW MEMBERS

Joyce Lister won a MERIT award at the Maryland Pastel Society National Juried Exhibition. Her work was selected by juror, Richard McKinley, nationally honored artist and Signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Deborah Maklowski also had a pastel work in this show. This exhibition runs through November 7th at Strathmore Mansion, Bethesda, Maryland. Strathmore Mansion is located at: 10701 Rockville Pike North Bethesda, MD 20852 ………………………..
HOCO 2009 Biennial Show CONGRATULATIONS to: R. Teresa LaRocque, Bruce Blum (Honorable Mention), Deborah Maklowski, Mary Adcock-Ingram and Eleanor Dowdell Of the 49 images at this show, 6 came from members of MAL. Show continues through November, 2009. The juror was Amanda Burnheim, Assistant Professor and Area Coordinator of Foundations, Towson University. ………………………..
Bruce Blum and Mary Ellen Gordon have work displayed at the Activity Center Art Gallery of Bohrer Park with the Senior Artists Alliance November 20th January 18th, 2010 506 South Frederick Road, Gaithersburg Monday-Saturday: 8am-9pm Sunday: 8am-5pm ……………………….. As of October 20th, two pieces of art were sold at the Irvine Nature Center, Maryland Art League exhibit: Congratulations to Mary Ellen Gordon and Sara Joan Levin.
