November, 2008 Newsletter

NEXT MEETING: November 17th

Program: Bob Kirkpatrick will be doing a power point of his paintings, the way he builds a painting from start to finish, the way he makes Maroger Medium, and the way he makes his paint. He will be open to any kind of questions anyone would like to ask.

Bob has both a BFA and an MFA from The Maryland Institute, College of Art, and has painted and taught in the Baltimore area for the past thirty years. His realistic landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits are represented in collections nationally.

Bob likes to emphasize the play of light, whether on water or stone in his landscapes or on glass and cloth in his still-life studies. He employs the glazing techniques of the Old Masters but with a contemporary feel. Making his own paint by grinding dry pigment allows him to create a luminous quality in his work.
Bob currently teaches landscape and still life painting at The Mitchell School of Fine Art in Baltimore. If you have any questions, or if you need other info. e-mail Bob at bob@rckirkpatrick.com  or call at 410-628-0633

Hospitality for November:

Elenore Dowdell and her  committee is Carolyn Anderson, Gus Devos, James Cook, Joanna Kos and Shirley Greenwald

Many Thanks to Eileen Williams for the lovely table and refreshments for the October meeting.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

I write this having missed the meeting in October and not knowing the outcome of the screening for the Wells exhibit.  So, what’s new?  I just have good news to report.  We have an active and dedicated group who were well organized for the meeting and screening, and I am certain that all went well.  We also have a CD with some 120 images on it that can be used to show to potential exhibit venues.  (Note that many artists are represented by only one -- or no -- images.  Please send me your slides and/or JPEGs to add to the folder.)  In addition, our set of abstracts is growing, but many artists still are not included.  And finely, progress on a revised web site is proceeding, albeit slowly.

I’m off on vacation secure in the knowledge that the Maryland Art League is a great organization!  Thanks to all.
